Música para el domingo - I only wanna be with you (Dusty Springfield)

Por ejemplo, este temazo de Dusty Springfield titulado “I only wanna be with you“.

Adam Lambert On The Early Show

Adam Lambert AMA performance had become quite the scandal, due to the same sex male kissing and simulated oral sex with one of his dancers on stage. Due to this his appearance on ABC’s GMA was canceled so he went to CBS’s The Early Show to promote his album.

In the interview Adam said he thought the parents are responsible  for what there kids see on T.V “I’m not a baby sitter only a performer: he says . He also said that he was not the only one to push the envelope saying Janet grab as guys crouch, Lady Gaga was smashing whiskey bottles and that Eminem bragged about his rape count. When he was asked is there a doubled standard he said “Yes cause I’m a male and I’m gay so, it’s a double wammy”. I agree to some extent. But he needs to watch out and not be to aggressive it has scared some of his fans off.

Globo manda e CBF muda horários de jogos

RedeTVi

Music Review: Annie Lennox

The Legendary Annie Lennox

I was truly looking forward to writing this review. There are so many things that need to be said in regards to this woman. Its beyond her voice, beyond her presence, beyond her deeds, its all of it rolled up into one. The Great Annie Lennox.

As most people, my first experience with Annie Lennox was with the band, The Eurythmics. The 80s brought about sooo many amazing bands into my life and The Eurythmics were one of them. The moment I saw her I saw fire. LOL. That short red hair, the stunning eyes, the androgynous look made me think “Who IS that???” Then I heard that voice!

Annie has this voice that you see her and think, “wow that just came out of her mouth… really…awesome!”. Its deep, sultry, powerful, shocking, beautiful, enchanting, I could go on forever. You heard her voice and you forgot about everything around you. All that mattered was her voice. The great thing was my mom fell in love with her too and when you are 8 years old, with not many friends, and raised by a single mom, your bond is stronger and having our love for The Eurythmics and Annie Lennox made it just that much more fun!

So eventually Scottish-born Annie took a much needed break from the Eurythmics to work on solo work and whoa did THAT take off!!

Her first “solo” work was mainly a duet with Al Green covering the song “Put a Little Love in Your Heart” for the movie Scrooged. it was produced by her Eurythmics cohort Dave Stewart and it was just uphill from there.

Her first solo album Diva is probably one of THE most amazing albums ever. The songs “Why” and “Walking On Broken Glass” were epic! I can listen to Why and cry my eyes out. Its basically everything I feel in my head when I feel supressed or patronized. Its someone yelling for you “THIS IS HOW I FEEL YOU DONT KNOW HOW I FEEL!!” Its such a release you want to laugh, scream, cry, shake your fist, breathe a sigh of relief. Walking on Broken Glass the range of octaves for her in the bridge are just so amazing. Its a standard of mine in karaoke. Little Bird is also a favorite from that album. The video for it is just as great. A bunch of lookalikes from all her personas in her many different videos from the past. Its a fun romp!

She also did a song for the movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The movie kinda sucked but the song “Song for a Vampire” is one of the most beautiful songs in the world. I wish I had sang it. I wish I had that talent. I do have talent but wow, to be Annie Lennox!

Anyways after Diva came Medusa which was an album of cover songs however I gotta tell ya, I forgot No More I Love You’s wasnt her own song. In fact almost all the songs on that cd you forget they are from other people because she makes them her own.

Bare was exactly that but in a good way. A bit more simplistic yet just as beautiful. Annie found her niche and its as a phenomenal solo diva!

As for soundtrack work, she release yet another gem with her song for Return of the King, “Into the West”. It won a well deserved Oscar for best original song.

More recently in 2007 she had put out yet another album entitled, Songs of Mass Destruction. I highly suggest checking out all of her work. Annie Lennox is sheer majesty! I bow down in reverence.

The video I have is Song for a Vampire from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It was hard finding a video since most were disabled for embedding yet I lucked out with this one!

Pet Shop Boys/Very [Relentless]

Very [Relentless] is the 5th studio release from the Pet Shop Boys. Featuring a more heavy instrumented Dance arrangement, this release is also the most ‘gay’ release to date as Tennant took more liberties with his orientation on this release than ever before. Released in 1993, this CD went on to sell an impressive 5 million copies worldwide.  Also released as a limited ‘digi-pak’ the CD was housed with a mostly instrumental 6 song companion CD in a limited package..of which I am the proud owner of.

Very:

Can You Forgive Her?—-Heavy on synth and subtle British humor, I never really attached myself to this song. In the PSB catalog, it is perhaps my least favorite of their compositions. The overlayed vocals are wonderful…the music seems to lack spirit and inspiration…many love this. perhaps this is just a personal choice. Not bad by any means, just not a favorite.

I Wouldn’t Normally Do This Kind Of Thing—-On the flip side. this is one of my very favorite PSB sngles…the music is a hyped styled delivery that makes you want to jump around and illicit vocal mantras of good tidings. the song speaks of the true feeling we all experience when we first feel the tinge of new found love and romance. this is a feel good song all the way around…the instrumentation of Lowe is beautifully manufactured to fit the mood of new and emerging love…the vocal is classic Tennant. This is truly wonderful!!!!

Liberation—-Musically, the song is more downbeat and relaxed. Lyrically and vocally, the pain of the relationship that we discovered in the last track becomes inevitable. The vocal of Tennant is stripped bare and is very raw and real. The track remains one of my favorite…I never tire of the song. The melodies that Lowe manages to produce with machines is extraordinary…this is truly wonderful!

A Different Point Of View—-The song, from the onset again makes you want to jump around and make exclamations of joy…it is that hyped. The vocal and lyrical delivery is a tad bit more introspective,…..this entire release seems to be about relationships in their different stages. The lyrical content requires some though, but the music is absolute and brillant…the beats and rhythms are just joyous…this is wonderful……always a favorite and I never ever tire of hearing this.!!!

Dreaming Of The Queen—-Sedate and melancholy, this is PSB at their very moody best. The song seems to be a kind of triv=bute to Lady Di…I’m not sure what the song is about…lots of references to the Queen and Di and the feeling of loss and disappointment permeate the track. This is brilliant…the low hum of sadness, the deep sound of the mellow keyboard…this is brilliant!!!

Yesterday, When I was Mad—-I must have a half dozen remixes of this track and I love everyone…this song fits my moody self to a tee. The song speaks more of ‘relationships’ and the stages of progression…this is a brilliant case study of something going through the natural and normal changes of the development of love. The music is rich and textured at the onset, but quickly it dissolves into an acid like dance floor romp that is made for strobe lights and ecstasy…this is brilliant…wow…knocked out of the park. The melody is so infectious…you will think about this days after hearing this and that still happens 13 years after it’s release.

The Theatre—-A huge and masterful song that studies the difference of class and the gluttony of the more fortunate…a social commentary that was written ong before the whole rest of the world caught on, this is literally a masterpiece!!!The music is huge…the electronic feel of the music is undeniable…..the orchestrated sound that matches the beat is incredible. The low hum that I speak of so often runs through the entire song and makes your heart-break and wonder why you are not doing something to help others…to me, this is wonderfull…unforgettable and a for ever favorite.

One And One Make Five—-With a piano sound that is right out of the 1995 Club Ibiza sound, the song takes on a relentless beat that seems to shine above the usually very present vocal of Tennant. There are so many sounds going on in the song that you sometimes lose track of the voice…this only speaks to the mastery of Lowe and how different Tennant would be without him…the quiet one is usually the least noticed and the most important….point taken.

To Speak Is A Sin—-We return to relationship issues as the music on the track takes on a more sedate and mellow feel. If the horns are real or manufactured, it plays very well. Tennant tells the story of the uncomfortable comfortable relationship…where things go on and on just because it is easier. The musical track keeps a nice sedate pace, although in the very backdrop is a nice tick tick ticking sound that grabs your attention from time to time…this is perfect.

Young Offender—-Brilliant in the dance oriented field that this music falls in…to me the message of the song was lost and I would have loved to just have the Lowe track without any interruption of the vocal. Lowe has constructed a perfect song….the music takes you through the mood of the song and speaks a lesson all of it’s own…this is adequate because of the voice..the music is AA++.

One In A Million—-Yet another feel good song that just makes you want to scream and shout to the world all of the good things that are happening in your life. The song has a downpoint….mostly to do with the lyrics…if you concentrate on the true emotion of the song, it is not always happy…yet the delivery and the pace of the music just makes you want to pull your hair out in JOY!!!! This is beautiful, inspiring, euphoric and every other word you think of that means WONDERFUL!!!!

Go West—-A brilliant and hugely popular cover of the Village People song, the Boys add life and meaning to the track. This is far more meaningful and huge in  delivery than ever thought possible from the ‘disco divas’…..this takes on an aching feel at times and at others leaves  you drenched in sweat. A wonderful example of how the Boys can make anything their own. Wonderful!!! To see this live is unforgettable!

Relentless:

My Head Is Spinning—-/from the onset, the song is slow and layered, yet you can feel the build up to the bass synth that will lead the pace of the song. This is machine-made melody at it’s finest. Tennant only makes a brief vocal appearance with a repetitive trance vocal that never overtakes the masterful instrumental qualities of the song. This is Lowe at his finest.

Forever In Love—-The track begins with a nice spatial introduction that sinks into a nice heavy house beat that catches your attention from the very first thump. The vocal incantations of Tennant are mutated and foreign sounding…Brilliant. The bass beat of the song inspires a shoe gaze type dance that is easy, relaxed and mind altering. This is brilliance!!! As the song emerges, the Diva qualities of the song shine…this is a pure high energy delivery that will never leave a dance floor empty. Lowe is genius!!!

KDX 125—-The machine generated sounds are welcoming and familiar…Lowe has a certain sound about him as well…this is brilliant dance oriented music that inspires more of a trance than all and out dance floor thumping. Brilliant!!!

We Came From Outer Space—-With interesting soundbites and an almost hyper kinetic beat, the song is layered with any different sounds…at times you hear the familiar sound of Tennant, but it is manipulated and foreign….what a brilliant idea. The soundbites continue through the entire song…allowing you to lose yourself in the mind altering beats that just inspire you to dance and enjoy. This is sinful and devastatingly good.

The Man Who Has Everything—-A nice diva inspired dance groove that is made for three o’clock in the AM dance parties, this song will inspire and mellow…a journey all of it’s own, it almost has a down beat Moby feel to it…this is wonderfully layered with many sounds…the ever present dance tick and beautifully orchestrated sounds on the top..this is genius!!!

One Thing Leads To Another—-Landscaped  from the very onset, the downbeat sounds of the song are perfect for middle of the night cool down sessions. Tennant delivers a rap styled vocal that is better than West End Girls even dreamed of being. This is brilliant…the music seems to me muted and pushed back…the vocal never really takes the spot either, as if the whole track is meant to have a deepness and dank feeling. This is brilliant…when the piano breaks the darkness it as if the sun begins to shine and all is well. Magical.

Yes Newcastle City Hall November 20th 2009

Yes Newcastle City Hall November 20th 2009
Yes are a special band for me. The first concert I went to over 40 years ago was the Bonzo Dog Band at Sunderland Empire with Yes, Roy Harper and Mad Dog (?) support. At the time Yes were a new band who had just released their first album. Since then Yes and I have seen a lot of changes over the years. I’ve seen lots of different line-ups and lots of different tours over the years, including all of the 70s tours, the Buggles line up, Topographic Ocenas (yawn), a show at Stoke City Ground which was stopped short because of terrible rain, headlining Reading in the mid-70s when they were simply majestic and at the top of thier game, and the last UK tour an Manchester MEN arena (which was OK). Once again a new line-up is touring the UK, and Yes are back at the City Hall.
The current line-up features long timers Chris Squire (the only remaining member from the really early days), Steve Howe, Alan White, Oliver Wakeman (yes Rick has been replaced by his son) and a new singer (an’t remember his name; I need to look it up!) replacing Jon Anderson. To be honest I wasn’t sure what this was going to be like or what to expect; but hey its Yes its the City Hall and its Friday night!
I dropped a guitar off to Laura and arrived at around 7.35, took my seat and Yes take the stage about a minute later! Wow! An early start; that’ll do me ; I thought!
The set is a best-of-Yes set including some songs that I don’t think I’ve seen them do for years. If I had to write down my favourite Yes songs it would have pretty much been this. So we get Yours is No Disgrace, Astral Traveller (great; takes me back to the late 60s! and seeing them play the Time and a Word lp supporting The Nice!), Roundabout, Heart of the Sunrise (probably my favourite), Steve plays Mood for a Day, And You and I (OK, I’m back in the field in Redaing in my mind, but actually I always thought this was one was a bit over-rated), and Starship Trooper.
And they were absolutely great. The new members have brought new life into the band. The new singer is excellent, he sings faultlessly. Of course he isn’t Jon and thats sad, but actually he does a wonderful job. The older guys area clearly enjoying it, Steve plays great, and Chris is as in command of his bass, and the band as ever. It is of course, a home coming for Alan White. The crowd love it and the band get standing ovations for many of the songs, and some even run down to the front and are dancing along to Roundabout (does seem a bit strange seeing 50+ and 60+ year olds behaving like kids again, but also great; I’m not the only one reliving rock memories).
Awesome. The best concert I have been to for some time. I’m tempted to drive to Manchester tonight to see them again.

Set list:
Siberian Khatru
Your Move – I’ve Seen All Good People
Tempus Fugit
Onward
Astral Traveller
Yours Is No Disgrace
And You And I
Steve’s Solo
Owner Of A Lonely Heart
Southside Of The Sky

Toro y Moi - Blessa 7"(Carpark November 2009)

Toro y Moi - Blessa 7"

Tracklist:

1. Blessa

2. 109

______________________________________________

Out(“Blessa”), deren “Feel it All Around” Bundick bereits remixte.

Fresh Vid: Beyonce - Video Phone Featuring Lady GaGa

Bey and GaGa?!?! Wow! Way too much hotness and power in one video. I made it through the whole video, but it was almost too much. Looks like Bey and GaGa became friends after this year’s MTV VMAs and now they remixed two songs together, Beyonce’s Video Phone and Lady GaGa’s Telephone. Hmm, both songs are phone related, I wonder what the story behind that is? Enjoy!

Malcolm McLaren The Baltic Newcastle 13 November 2009

Malcolm McLaren The Baltic Newcastle 13 November 2009
I was seeped in rock music throughout the early days of punk, and caught all of the major punk gigs in the North East: The Pistols, The Clash, the Damned, the Jam, Vibrators, 999, Siouxsie, Ramones, Television, Iggy, Buzzcocks, and too many others to mention. So when I saw that Malcolm McLaren was coming to the Baltic Art gallery to present his new film and talk about his work I couldn’t resist getting tickets to go along and hear what he had to say. I was hoping for some insights into those great days which are fasting becoming fading memories. So Laura, David and I went to this event last Friday to hear what Malcolm had to say.
The evening had been sold out for some time and was held in the exhibition space in the Baltic, which holds around 300 people (I would guess). The main part of the evening was the first showing of Malcolm’s new film: Paris. Paris is in 21 sections; each section is a collage of old French commercials overlaid with McLaren speaking, singing and other music. After the film Malcolm was interviewed and then he took questions from the audience.
I usually enjoy most things that I go to and always look for the positives in a performance; and almost always find some. On Friday I am afraid I didn’t really see anything positive. The film seemed to go on forever and I’m afraid I either didn’t get it at all; or it really isn’t very good at all. Similarly, I didn’t enjoy the discussions with Malcolm, which focussed on his contributions to art over the years. I had been hoping for more insights into his role in the Sex Pistols and the emergence of Punk. Still it was interesting to see him, but not an experience I would wish to repeat.

The Cure - Just Like Heaven

“Show me how you do that trick”…

Celle-ci commencera par “Show me, show me, how you do that trick” cette fois-ci dans le sens, “Par quel magie, m’as-tu séduite ?”

“Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream” she said
“The one that makes me laugh” she said
And threw her arms around my neck
“Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I’ll run away with you
I’ll run away with you”

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
“Why are you so far away?” she said
“Why won’t you ever know that I’m in love with you
That I’m in love with you”

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You’re just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

You're in control

To continue with the trend of music that will not help me fall asleep (why do I listen to The XX mid-day?) here is another one of my favourite new tunes and it comes from Wolf Gang.

“The King and all Of His Men” will draw you in immediately with the toe tapping drum beats and catchy “oohooo”. The song doesn’t stop building momentum, seeming to pull sounds from thin air. Every time I listen to it I hear a new layer they have created, such an epic, full sounding song. All working towards the grand tribal drumming and expansive ending.

Hopefully I haven’t built this up too much. Just listen to it

Dangerous - Michael Jackson

The way she came into the place
I knew right then and there
There was something different
About this girl

The way she moved
Her hair, her face, her lines
Divinity in motion

As she stalked the room
I could feel the aura
Of her presence
Every head turned
Feeling passion and lust

The girl was persuasive
The girl I could not trust
The girl was bad
The girl was dangerous

I never knew but I was
Walking the line
Come go with me
I said I have no time
And don’t you pretend we didn’t
Talk on the phone
My baby cried
She left me standing alone

She’s so dangerous
The girl is dangerous
Take away my money
Throw away my time
You can call me honey
But you’re no damn good for me

She came at me in sections
With the eyes of desire
I fell trapped into her
Into her web of sin
A touch, a kiss
A whisper of love
I was at the point
Of no return

Deep in the darkness of
Passion’s insanity
I felt taken by lust’s
Strange inhumanity
This girl was persuasive
This girl I could not trust
The girl was bad
The girl was dangerous

I never knew
But I was living in vain
She called my house
And said you know my name
And don’t you pretend
You never did me before
With tears in her eyes
My baby walked out the door

She’s so dangerous
The girl is so dangerous
Take away my money
Throw away my time
You can call me honey
But you’re no damn good for me
Dangerous
The girl is so dangerous
I have to pray to God
‘Cause I know how
Lust can blind
It’s a passion in my soul
But you’re no damn lover
Friend of mine

And then it happened
She touched me
For the lips of
A strange woman
Drop as a honeycomb
And her mouth was
Smoother than oil
But her inner spirit and words
Were as sharp as
A two-edged sword
But I loved it
‘Cause it’s dangerous

I cannot sleep alone tonight
My baby left me here tonight
I cannot cope ’til it’s all right
You and your manipulation
You hurt my baby

She’s so dangerous
The girl is so dangerous
Take away my money
Throw away my time
You can call me honey
but you’re no damn good for me

Dangerous
The girl is so dangerous
Take away my money
Throw away my time
You can call me honey
But you’re no damn good for me

Dangerous
The girl is so dangerous
I have to pray to God
Cause I know how
Lust can blind
It’s a passion in my soul
But you’re no damn lover
Friend of mine

Música para el domingo - I Guess That´s Why They Call It The Blues (Elton John)

I guess that’s why the call it the blues“.

Pistol Youth - Problematic

Pistol Youth started when guitarist Bradley Hanan-Carter asked three of his mates who had never met who all lived in different countries to record an E.P over the internet. It went so well they all met up in LA and have a full length album on the way.
For Problematic, director Adam Jones traveled the world with some cardboard cut outs in tow and made this clever video in Auckland, L.A, Sydney and Sweden.

Pet Shop Boys/Nightlife

Nightlife is the 11th release by cultural icons the Pet Shop Boys…..it is the 7th release by the duo of all new recorded material. The release features a wide variety of musical sound…..Hard Trance, Dance Pop. Disco and even a slight Country sound. The release also features a wonderful duet with pop Diva Kylie Minogue. Released in 1999, this was a huge return to form for the group…the release sold a staggering 1.2 million copies worldwide and reminded the world that the Pet Shop Boys were waaaayyyyy more than a one hit wonder.

For Your Own Good—–The song teases from the onset…..the build up is slow, but the PSB fan knows that something brilliant is about to occur…and it does. This track is a romp through pure pop/trance heaven…the voice is so disembodied while the music is swirling and warm. This is freakin’ brilliant…one of my favorite tracks on this release, the overdubs and background vocals only add to the ecstatic qualities of the song. This is damn near brilliant…why is this band not huge??

Closer To Heaven—-Apparently written for a stage play that never occurred, the fans of the band were the ones who triumphed by the demise of said play…..the music is classic….the vocal is classic….this is classic!!! The joy I felt with this song…the underlying sadness of the low hum….it keeps you on the edge of your seat. This duo can do no wrong in my book. Seeming to contain elements of earlier hits, the synth plays back and forth between a familiar sound and something wonderfully new. Tennant sings in an upper register that is seldom heard anymore….the result is a huge dance floor excursion that you can lose yourself in…the lights swirl and the voice envelops you…you are now a lost cause. Freakin’ Wonderful!!!!

I Don’t Know What You Want But I Can’t Give It Anymore—-Beautifully orchestrated from the onset, it is not long before the full disco feel of the song emerges. Tennant falls back in the classic Al Stewart….talk/sing style of delivery with his vocal. The dance grooves are remakable…even for a rather sedate song….you can move to this song solo or with a romantic partner equally. This is a brilliant and classic rendition of PSB material…..these are glory days set in modern time. Wonderful!!!

Happiness Is An Option—-Without a doubt, this is my favorite track from this release…the downbeat feel of the song is remarkable, Tennant delivers an even more disembodied feel to the vocal. The melodic qualities of the song emerge during the chorus and I promise that it will plant itself in your brain….especially at the end of the track when the Boys enter their trademark capability of giving you an added hook to think about. The duo vocal overlays are brilliant!!!  This is beyond words….

You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You’re Drunk—-Kudos and awards for the song title alone….this is brilliant. Taking on a slight Country feel, the song even features a nice slide guitar sound. Neil delivers a vocal that seems so comfortable you at once wonder what the hell is going on…this is brilliant, versatile and wonderful all at once…a departure but sounding extremely comfortable this duo never fails to surprise and intrigue.

Vampires—One of the few songs by the Boys that I really do not like, the whole concert and idea of the song never appealed to me…same as the whole wig wearing thing during the tour for this release….why is all of that necessary when you make such quality music…I guess the song is meant to go along with the whole Nightlife theme…whatever…..just give me more of what I demand….this is acceptable, but lacks something for me.

Radiophonic—-Returning to the much more Electronic and trance oriented sound of the first track, this song is a pure romp through the kingdom of dance floors. This is damn near brilliant….Neil delivers a vocal that is distant yet screams of emotion…the music of Lowe drives you to near madness….the background chorus adds life to the song and makes it a classic 1:00 in the morning dance floor romp that you will look for time and time again.

The Only One—-Beginning with a beautiful piano interlude, the song has a thick and lush feel to it…a remarkable contrast to the previous track. Tennant actually sounds connected and emotional during the heartfelt delivery of the lyric. This is lush and wonderful…the song has a lot of things going on it at the same time, but it all comes together to make it a masterful and introspective PSB track…listen and think about the things he is espousing on.

Boy Strange—-From the onset, the song has a strange almost military feel to it….the arrangement is lush and full of thick sounds……the track dissolves into a ballad style delivery that is cl;assic…the low hum of sadness that runs through so many of the Boys songs actually comes to the forefront and you feel the true heaviness of the lyric…I’m not sure of the interpretation of the song….it just reminds me of childhood and travails…really nice!!

In Denial—-A ‘duet’ with superstar Kylie Minogue, this marked the beginning of the coming out of Neil Tennant…never again was he afraid to include really gay elements n the boys recordingsd….not that it was a big secret or anything. This is a brilliant tale of a relationship between a daughter and Dad that recognize the true nature of the other…a brilliant and tender song…..powerful and touching…this is a tide turning.

New York City Boy—-Perhaps the most Disco oriented song the band had issued since Go West, this is straight out of the Village People songbook. The backdrop voices are boys that dance in sailor uniforms and the lyric of Tennant reminds us of how it was growing up gay in the Midwest. We all wanted to be those boys….this is not to be in Toledo…..the vibe of the song is fun and estatic…live it is even better…this is freakin’ brilliant. A nice throw back to the Club Days!!!!

Footsteps—-Lush and full of all kinds of sounds, the chorus is featured at the onset of the song and sets the mood. Tennant delivers a voice that is so full of melancholy and sadness….it is almost a shock after the previous track. The arrangement is rich and layered giving the sound an almost dreamy quality….this is remarkable…I do not listen to this release often enough!!!

JOHNNY FOREIGNER (WAITED UP TILL IT WAS LIGHT)

JOHNNY FOREIGNER
WAITED UP TIL IT WAS LIGHT
BEST BEFORE

Johnny Foreigner have made a mockery of the pressure that accompanies the high expectations of the music press. Waited Up Till It Was Light surpasses the promise of last year’s EP and flashes a big calling card to the Indie Big-Time. A re-education in 2nd wave Emo, each track is a giddily constructed puzzle-box made entirely of imagination and drive. They do play rough these dolls as Alexei Berrows, forever on emotional Def Con 5, feeds whirring guitar debris over frenetic chatterbox vocals whilst Kelly Southern terrorizes him with screeching interjections from behind her bass. All the while Junior makes sushi until the Matt Tong’s come a knockin’. Fraught but hopeful, doe-eyed yet savvy, its a Gondry-esque chase through young minds reaching for dreams unrealised and with its Technicolor splendour JF have travelled as far as possible in heart and mind from their hometown Birmingham. Namely mid-nineties Chicago with much of the trio’s freshness obtained by consuming the unique ethos of a scene so at odds with the prevailing trends of 2008’s faltering British musical landscape. Somewhat compromising the EP’s scrappier sensibilities, the production lends a more robust constitution, heaping majesty onto several forays into ethereal reflection and empowering the sludgy nebula on the likes of ‘Absolute Balance’.An album of Polaroid spontaneity, granular detail, winning humility and infectious punk belligerence.
