Maknae Minji posted an image of her self on her Me2day, usually Dara posts all the pictures. So it’s nice to see Minji do it for a change. The caption that went with the picture was..
“빅쇼이제딱하루남았어요-!!!콘서트끝나고운동중ㅋㅋ열분도강한체력으로고고고!!!!”
“The BIG SHOW only has one more day-!!! The concert endsㅋㅋ Ten people crossed the river with their strength go go go!!!!”
Maknae is working hard for the Big Show, I see. A long with 2kg weights, she is wearing a Sakun mask. As we all might know Top is known for this mask.
I’m so excited about this…super collab between James Mercer (from The Shins) and Danger Mouse (from Gnarls Barkley and producer of The Grey Album). This is seriously one of the greatest combinations i’ve dreamed would never happen. The album is due to come out March 9, 2010. Be ready for a storm. Broken Bells wiki

This female artists once broke into Prince Beverly Hills home. Once discovered, she was thrown out….but not before she left him with her demo.
Now she dominates the pop charts. According to pop singer, Ke$ha- how the dollar sign came about in her name is quite-ironic done
Ke$ha - TiK ToK
This movie requires Adobe Flash for playback.
Flo Rida wanted a female voice and Kesha (without the $ sign) was then suggested for the part. “Right Round” gained popularity and she was hearing it– everywhere, yet she was broke…her bike had gotten stolen, she didn’t have a car… niether could she afford to pay her rent. )
She was “stealing” canned vegetables from the dollar store. “While I’m stealing them, my voice is coming out of the radio-that was quite ridiculous”, she said. At the time Ke$ha performed with Flo Rida, she received no credit for her feature; she was just suggested for the part as the rapper needed a female voice and she needed some exposure. Later on she would add replace the “S” in her name with the $. She was about to do things different.
Three Dog Night refers to a cold Australian night, so cold that the Aboriginal people would sleep with three dingoes for warmth.
Wikipedia Entry for Three Dog Night
Three Dog Night was popular during the late 1960s, the peak period for pop music. They were a cover band, utilizing songs by prominent songwriters of the era. They featured three vocalists, who took turns singing the lead on their hit songs. Together the three vocalists have a distinctive sound. Here’s a nice example of the Three Dog Night sound:
A review of the available material does not offer any new revelations. They were a singles band; I can’t even find alternate versions of the hits. Here’s “Easy To Be Hard” from the musical Hair:
Not a lot to say here. Good singers and very well-known pop songs, some of which are better than others. Originally I rated “Out In The Country” as the best song, but I’ve changed my mind and believe their version of Harry Nilsson’s “One” is the best song. “One” rocks…four stars I say. I am less fond of some of their biggest hits, like “Joy To The World” and “Black And White”.

hmm..well, this is interesting to say the least. here we have the single edit of hudson’s the fourth single from straight no chaser. there’s now quite a bit of guitar on the track and a new snare, among other production tweaks. i really wasn’t into it at first, but as the song went on, i started to get a better understanding of what they where going for with this new version. i just wish it blended together better at the start. any new hudson drop is always good with me though.

The Silent League, based in Brooklyn, NY. These guys are pretty cool when it comes to music. Their new track “Yours Truly, 2095″ is a mix of pop, dance, rock and glo-fi. These cats are okay, not the greatest, but okay. That may be, but I still like them and hopefully you will too. Check it.
As a penance for my birthday indulgence last week, our theme this time was WALKING & RUNNING. ‘Cause a little bit of exercise never hurt anyone, now did it? Still, I think painting the town red must have still been on my mind as we opened the program with Lou Reed’s WALK ON THE WILD SIDE, from the 1972 album Transformer. It was produced by David Bowie who also sang backing vocals.
Here in Byron Bay, ‘doing the lighthouse walk’ is a daily excursion for some people. So, Kate Bush’s RUNNING UP THAT HILL was dedicated to them. It’s a great one to put on your iPod if you’re one of those mad people who walk or run as your preferred form of exercise.
Now you all know I love my Motown. So, WALK AWAY RENEE, released in 1968 by the Four Tops, was a given. As was NOWHERE TO RUN, a signature tune for Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, that was released way back in 1965. Check out this video clip from the same year. What to say about the back up dancers? OMG, the outfits, the dance moves!!!
Annie Lennox contributed WALKING ON BROKEN GLASS (ouch!) and then it was another true classic: Johnny Cash singing I WALK THE LINE and to round out the triple play beautifully, it was Fats Domino with I’M WALKING. Although it’s not the version we played on the show, take a look at this great clip of Fats Domino performing the song with Ricky Nelson. A great combination. And who is that saxophone player? Brilliant.
A little bit of UB40 followed with DON’T WALK ON THE GRASS and then it was Rufus Thomas with one of his biggest hits, WALKING THE DOG.
Empire of the Sun walked away with lots of awards for their debut album, WALKING ON A DREAM and the song of the same name was perfect for our show this week. As was Raphael Saadiq’s very suggestive, LET’S TAKE A WALK. Believe it or not this video, (like the song) was created in 2008. I’m loving the retro feel.
One for all the sleepwalkers – the brilliant R&B voice of Berna Dean singing I WALK IN MY SLEEP. Then it was Jimmy Rogers with WALKING BY MYSELF and a request from Judi, listening in Cairns: Patsy Cline’s I GO WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT.
Did you know that John Lennon disowned the song RUN FOR YOUR LIFE from the Rubber Soul album? He eventually wrote a much more politically correct tune called JEALOUS GUY. But hey, we live dangerously at the Theme Park, so RUN FOR YOUR LIFE it was. We followed with Steve Winwood and the Spencer Davis Group’s very appropriate, (if you were one of the Beatles’ girlfriends anyway), KEEP ON RUNNING. Check out the very young Steve Winwood in this clip. So cute.
It’s impossible NOT to sing along to WALKING ON SUNSHINE by Katrina and the Waves. It’s such an optimistic, sunny song that suits the fabulous Summer weather we are having here in beautiful Byron Bay.
WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES by Joe South and The Believers is a great song as is WALK ON from, none other than, Mr Roy Orbison. Then it was the incorrigible Tom Waits with WALKING SPANISH from my favourite album of his, Rain Dogs.
More R&B was on the agenda with the great Sam Cooke and I’LL COME RUNNING BACK TO YOU. He would have been 79 this week (January 22). Sadly he died at 33 years of age, in a shooting incident. He is quite rightly considered one of the pioneers and founders of soul music.
A couple of ballads that couldn’t be omitted from our show on WALKING & RUNNING are YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE by Gerry & The Pacemakers, (remember them?) and Dionne Warwick’s WALK ON BY.
Jack, in Sydney, requested WALK THIS WAY, from Run DMC and Aerosmith. Excellent choice. Love the combination of hard rock and hip-hop. There should be more of it, I say.
Then it was time for some Blues: One of my favourites from last year’s Byron Bay Blues Festival was Seasick Steve, so I was happy to play WALKING MAN from his album, I Started Out With Nothin’ And I Still Got Most Of It Left. Then it was John Lee Hooker with RUN ON and James Taylor covering Jnr Walker and the Allstars’ I’M A ROAD RUNNER.
Grace Jones is unique. She does an amazing version of WALKING IN THE RAIN, originally recorded by Australian band Flash and the Pan. You’ll find it on her Nightclubbing album, released in 1981.
A show on WALKING & RUNNING wouldn’t be the same without Creedence Clearwater Revival’s hit, RUN THROUGH THE JUNGLE. Or The Modern Lovers’ ROADRUNNER. Or The Bangles’ WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN. But my favourite from this week’s show has to be an oldie but a goodie, Helen Shapiro’s WALKING BACK TO HAPPINESS. Can you believe that she was only 14 when she recorded this in 1961? Wow.
Next week, the show falls on Australia Day so I have no choice but to play some of my favourite Australian tracks. Tune in then if you like your music homegrown or are hoping for some appropriate tunes to compliment your Australia Day party.
And in signing off, I offer you this wonderful piece of graffiti that came to my attention this week: “Be happy today. Why wait?”

Ένα από τα πιο όμορφα album που κυκλοφόρησαν το 2005, ήταν το “The Debt Collection” από τους Shortwave Set. Ο πρώτος δίσκος των τριών κολλητών από το ανατολικό Λονδίνο που αγαπούν την victorian funk, χρησιμοποιούν από κλασικά και παλιά μουσικά όργανα μέχρι laptops και δικά τους samples, έγινε ανάρπαστο και το κομμάτι “Is It Any Wonder” το έχει πάρει το αυτί σου κάπου σίγουρα. Φαντάσου τους Beta Band, τους Avalanches και τους St. Etienne στο ίδιο κρεβάτι. Το αποτέλεσμα είναι φρέσκο και πανέμορφο. 4/5!
Okay, What exactly is meant by cross genre. Well it is what the group RhythymLife uses to refer to their style of song writing and performing. Meaning that they show no allegiance to any specific music genre. Funk, Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Pop, Gospel. They touch on it all and let the listener decide where it goes . They just want to make memorable music. Having said that they have now released four titles of their new Cd on their Ourstage music site. Go by the site at http://www.ourstage.com/fanclub/rhythymlifeband and see what the cross genre buzz is all about.
It was perhaps inevitable, given Spoon’s stubbornly indie ways, that their follow-up to follow 2007’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is willfully ragged, challenging and melody-free. Transference is hardly a krautrock behemoth; nonetheless, from the first wavering organ drone of “Before Destruction”, over which Britt Daniel growls like a spectator to the end of days, to the atonal tape loops that cut through the closer, “Nobody Gets Me But You”, this is a deliberately difficult work.
That’s not to say that Transference is a bad album – in fact, it’s a very good album. Self-produced, and often committed to tape from home recordings and demo tracks, the album veers between acoustic laments targeting primal emotions (“Goodnight Laura”, “Out Go The Lights”), and shuffling, dubby funk (“Who Makes Your Money”), in which Daniel’s sparse vocals are further obscured by the kind of playful production trickery the band has become known for. In-studio chatter is prevalent in the interstitial few seconds between tracks; on several occasions, songs either end abruptly, or suddenly isolate one instrument which peters out in a disconcerting fashion.
It’s not all shunt and groove, luckily – that would have been somewhat monotonous and overly gloomy. Spoon may have pruned their brand of minimalist art pop down to the bare essentials, but they’re still apt to throw a wobbly now and again, as on the barreling, piano-thrashing R&B (in a fifties sense, not à la Beyoncé) of “Written In Reverse” which recalls the grander moments of Gimme Fiction, or indeed the scratchy lo-fi of “Trouble Comes Running”, where the drums and guitars are entirely panned to opposing channels in a defiantly Pavement-esque style reminiscent of 1998’s A Series of Sneaks.
Some will argue that Spoon’s relentless infatuation with sparseness and economy has turned to parody on Transference. I would argue that the singleness of vision displayed on this album result in a subtle, vaguely creepy sense of cohesion that lend it an understated appeal that resembles a more low-key variant on the midnight ruminations of Spoon’s 2002 magnum opus, Kill The Moonlight.
There is not always need to speak a lot, at the moment, I am pretty much speechless.
Tweets of Jay Reatard’s death overlap with the ones I was reading about the Haiti earthquake and marked the 13th of January as the worst day of this year.
I had a post about Jay Reatard on hold on Live on 35mm drafts since I saw him live opening with his former band, the Reatards, for the Black Keys back in May 2008.
I have been waiting for a second occasion to see him live and post some new photos to go along a review of one of the funniest guys of the circus. Unfortunately this cannot happen, but the photos are here for the ones who loved him.
Jay Reatard was a garage punk rock musicians. He was a bit of everything, spread on different genres and load of enthusiasm. His songs rarely last more than 2 minutes and have the immediacy and directness that only American punk has.
He was also one of the most prolific artists to have appeared in years. Jay started recording when he was just fifteen amd to date he has published under his name a bulk of work that most rockstar don’t produce in their life. About 20 LP plus a plethora of EPs, singles and compilations. All spread on at least 6 different bands plus the production as solo artist.
Whoever was accompanying him on bass, drums or further guitars, the mixture of punk rebelliousness, pop fun and rock’n'roll energy made his music always fresh and sparkling.
This is neither the place nor the moment to talk in more detail of his music, a quick search on google would be much more exhaustive than my writing. I only wanted to share these unedited pictures with his fans, they will not find them anywhere else.
As you can grasp from the images, his live shows were among the most entertaining concerts you could attend, a relentless burst of liveliness which makes the news of his death too unfair to be true.
His last album, Watch me Fall, praised by many reviewers and listed on last year top lists of album by many magazines, was giving Jay the fame he deserved. Today it sounds quite oddly titled.
The only consolation I can find is that we are plenty of his music to listen and discover.
The unconsolable reality is that it is not fair to die at 29.
This was Jay Reatard [website] [myspace] [facebook] [spotify]
Rest in Peace Jay and keep playing rock’n'roll, wherever you are.
